Shocking footage has emerged of a brutal attack on a man in the city centre after he apparently tried to stop a robbery.

Gardai are investigating after a gang of up to twenty youths beat up the man so badly he needed to be hospitalised.

The victim, a UK man in his mid 20s, is believed to have been attacked on Monday after intervening in a robbery on Little Britain Street, near Capel St.

A source told Dublin Live the gang then turned on the good samaritan, - seen in the video wearing a grey suit - chasing him into nearby St Michan’s Park.

The man is then confronted in the park by the teens before he tries to run out of the gates to get away.

He then falls to the ground and is hit before managing to get to his feet and make another attempt to escape.

The gang then chase him up the street before beating and kicking him on the ground.

The man was knocked to the ground where he was punched and kicked until a passerby intervened

The savage and cowardly attack continued until a passerby intervened and managed to stop it.

One boy, who is believed to be around 14 years old, is then seen throwing one last punch to the man's head as he leaves the area.

Gardai are in investigating the shocking incident, which left terrified onlookers shocked.

"A man in his mid 20s was assaulted by a group of youths and was brought to the Mater Hospital. Investigations are ongoing."
