Multiple calls were made to emergency services this evening after a plume of smoke was spotted over Tallaght.

Residents in the Bolbrook area made calls to Dublin Fire Brigade after the black smoke was spotted in the sunny skies.

One fire engine was sent to the scene when it was found a car was on fire.

Many residents had gathered outside their houses in fear a big fire had started in the area.

Due to the clear skies smoke from the relatively minor fire was more visible than usual.

However the fire service were quick to reassure locals that nothing serious was going on.

Dublin Fire Brigade tweeted: "On a clear evening, a routine call like a car fire can generate multiple 999 calls. One of our Tallaght fire engines attended this fire this evening."
